Neuropsychological Practice

Neuropsychological testing assesses ‘brain functions’ such as memory, learning, attention and cognitive ability but a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment should take other factors into considerations.  These include psychiatric, psycho-social, genetic or familial aspects. It is critical that we explore not just current symptoms, but historical reports.

At Comprehend the Mind, we look beyond the referral reason to identify the root of difficulties. Seeing the whole person allows us to explore other diagnoses so that we reach an informed decision.  Rather than merely stating the findings, CtM reports are tailored to the specific needs of our patients, allowing referrals, accommodations, medication management, or therapy plans.

When to Consider a Neuropsychological Evaluation

Some concerns that may benefit from testing include:

  • ADHD
  • Memory loss or cognitive decline
  • Learning difficulties
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Dyslexia – understanding reading issues (decoding, comprehension, or visual processing)
  • Dysgraphia – identifying writing problems (motor skills, organization, or content)
  • Math disorder
  • Concussion or head injury
  • Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia
