What is a neuropsychologist?

A good answer to the question of what is a neuropsychologist would be this; a neuropsychologist is a medical professional who is trained in the arts of dealing with cognitive functions of the brain such as attention, language and memory. Although termed as medical professionals, these people do not perform any surgery nor do they prescribe any medication. If you think you are in need of one please click here.

Work Setting
Since neuropsychologists are experts of a field that is applicable in countless situations, they are able to contribute considerably in a number of different working environments. These individuals have different types of specialties. For instance, many neuropsychologists will tend to involve themselves in research or teach at universities as well as colleges. On the other hand, many of these individuals tend to place themselves in a clinical setting where they are able to offer their expertise in treating people with different types of cognitive disabilities. Also, neuropsychologists are considered to be adept at forensics because they can gauge the viability of witnesses and have the qualifications that allow them to provide testimonies within court based hearings.

What is a neuropsychologist list of qualifications?
A neuropsychologist will have to spend a long time completing his or her academic qualifications. Normally, it is going to take such an individual about ten years of school time to become qualified enough to start working. Consequently, during their school years, such individuals will be learning about anatomy, brain function as well as brain disease and injury. Moreover, these individuals will also be able to partake in a number of courses including but not limited to psychology, philosophy, ethics and psychiatry.

After completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree though many neuropsychologists end up receiving doctorates, these individuals will have to take a test conducted by the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology or the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology. Upon successfully passing this exam, these medical professionals are able to get an official license that will allow them to work anywhere.

What is a neuropsychologist job description?
Although job descriptions can vary depending upon the type of work setting, neuropsychologists will tend to work with neuroscientists, philosophers, neurologists as well as computer scientists to perform research or even treat patients for a number of different issues.

Since the work that these individuals conduct on a daily basis is focused around analyzing brain functionality, most neuropsychologists will deal with performing brain scans and then analyzing the results to come up with some sort of research objective or treatment.
